Médiathèque Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Description
Built in 1992 by Aurelio Galfetti, the architect behind the Ecole Tessinoise, this building completes the renovation of Curial, the former Napoleonic barracks.
Far from being a defensive structure, its rounded form, materials and colours are in keeping with the Espace Malraux. The juxtaposition of contemporary works in the same style balances the existing military architecture.
Completed in 1992, at the same time as the Olympic Games, this fantastic 5-floor cultural centre covers 6000m sq. and contains all the services of a multi-media library. In the basement, the Eureka gallery contains a Centre de Culture Scientifique Technique et Industrielle about the mountains. Three main spaces encourage adolescents and young people to become aware and develop their interest in science, technology and industry, in partnership with the Education Nationale.
