Gouffres, tannes, glacières, pont de pierre, grotte des fées... this mountain is a veritable gruyère of limestone shaped by water! Follow the discovery trail through the caves of the Margériaz and discover all their mysteries.
From the car park, the trail leads you to Place à Baban, then follows a path that climbs through the forest. Beneath your feet, the Margériaz plateau is made of limestone. Water has dissolved the rock, creating numerous galleries.
Along the way, venture into the caves and feel the dampness of the stone. Don't go too deep, though, as this is where the fairies live.
Reach your hand over the chasms and feel the cold of the snowfields preserved in their depths.
If you want to extend your hike, take the path that climbs up through the rocks to reach the ridge. Once at the top, you'll be rewarded with superb views of the Belledonne mountain range, the Granier...
The path winds its way down through the mountain pastures, where you'll see lapiaz formations carved out by water runoff. You may even come across a herd grazing peacefully here.
On the way back through the forest, Margériaz has a few more geological curiosities in store for you, so keep your eyes peeled!
