Description

A very nice trek on the Massif du Margériaz. Mont Blanc is at your fingertips! The main peaks of the Bauges mountains are revealed before you, as well as the Belledonne range, not to mention the Chartreuse and Vanoise mountains.
The path is very pleasant, especially after a snowfall. There is no particular difficulty, as here we are on an initiation course. The steeper passages are in the forest but are only a few meters long. However, you must watch out for the sinkholes that you may come across on your way. Be careful in foggy weather, as above the forest it is more challenging to find your way. From the car park or reception point, get to the start of the Ambruniers ski lift. Go around on the left, along the ski slope (Les Coqs) for about 50 m., before entering the forest at the snowshoe signpost. The route winds between the trees. You will find that the trail is marked with neon green discs on posts. The trail is very easy, and the journey is varied: small climbs, slopes and crossings, and as you advance, you climb gradually. The route is close to the Alpage ski lift. Little by little, the trees become sparser and you leave the forest to discover the ski slopes on your right. Continue climbing towards the wayside cross at the Bergerie (a high-altitude restaurant). Above, the snowshoeing trail runs along the Tasson trail (meaning ”badger” in Savoyard dialect), passes behind the Alpages ski lift and then that of the Bergerie to reach the ridge. Continue along the track above the rocky ledges beyond the arrival station of the chairlift. Several lookouts allow you to admire the surrounding panorama. About 15 min. of trekking after the 1,784 m. point (IGN map), you will reach the highest point: Mont Margériaz at 1,845 m. To get there, go down a few meters and follow the "Echapade" track. The summit, indicated by an IGN marker, is located above the Golet ski lift. To return, follow the same route or take the chairlift (free).
